Stay Safe! August is National Traffic Awareness Month

Driving is a big responsibility that we can sometimes take for granted. Take a moment to review these tips and recommit to safe driving practices.

• Buckle up. Make sure all passengers wear seat belts or are secured in approved car seats. 
• Stay focused and alert. Keep your eyes on the road and your hands on the wheel. Pull off the road to call, text, eat or drink.
• Be aware of your surroundings. Watch for issues from oncoming or nearby cars, pedestrians, animals, weather, road hazards and more. 
• Use your turn signals to keep other drivers apprised of your intentions. Check mirrors and blind spots before turning, passing or changing lanes.
• Follow the speed limit, and don’t follow cars too closely. You want to have plenty of reaction time should you need it.
• Never drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
• Keep your car properly maintained. Breakdowns can lead to accidents, injuries and fatalities.
• If you must stop, pull completely off the road and turn on your hazard lights.
