Proper Snow & Ice Removal From Your Car
So you leave the house for work in the morning and … yikes. Your car is covered in ice or snow. What to do? Just follow these 4 Steps and remove them easily without damaging your vehicle’s paint or windshield. You’ll be on the road in no time.
1. Use Your Defroster
Start your car and turn on the front and rear defrosters. This will make the job much easier.
2. Skip The Hot Water
The fast change in temperature from hot water can crack your windshield. Ditto for propane burners, which can even melt the glass. Frozen door handles? Use cold water and then brush away the frozen stuff.
3. Use The Right Tools
Those metal ice scrapers sold in stores can leave cuts and scrapes on your windshield and damage your paint. Use a plastic ice scraper with a soft, nonabrasive foam brush that is specifically manufactured for snow. Anything else can leave scratches.
4. Work From The Top
Start at the top of the car with your brush. Pull the snow toward you and off your car rather than pushing it away. Do the same to your windshield, hood, back window and trunk until almost all of the snow and ice are gone.
