How to Winterize your vehicle

How to Winterize Your Vehicle

Winter weather can take a toll on your car. Here are some steps you can take to ensure safety, reliability and performance through the winter months.

  1. Make sure your tires have sufficient tread to maintain traction on icy roads.
  2. Cold temperatures can cause tire pressure to drop, so check and adjust regularly.
  1. Inspect your battery, which can lose power in colder weather. Have it tested to avoid being stranded.
  2. Top off fluids
    • Ensure your coolant is properly mixed and filled to prevent freezing.
    • Use a winter-grade windshield washer fluid that won’t freeze in low temperatures.
    • Check if your vehicle requires a lower-viscosity oil for winter.
  1. Install winter-grade windshield wiper blades to handle snow and ice.
  2. Pack an emergency kit that includes a flashlight, blanket, first-aid kit, jumper cables, ice scraper, snow shovel, and sand or kitty litter for traction.
  3. Verify that headlights, taillights, and turn signals are clean and functioning properly for optimal visibility in low-light conditions.
